Experienced defense and coverage counsel are worth their weight in reserve dollars. Our principals need, and we deliver, timely and accurate reporting and budgets to manage their losses and claims. Our attorneys have worked for decades with most major insurance and reinsurance companies to defend their insureds and assist in coverage analysis in the most complex areas of law: products liability, toxic tort exposure, environmental losses, directors’ and officers’ liability, municipal liability, civil rights, fidelity and commercial crime, professional liability, general liability, construction defect claims, major property losses, as well as claims against life, health and disability policies.
We represent and counsel insurers in all aspects of coverage disputes, including providing coverage opinions, litigating declaratory judgment actions, and first-party coverage claims.
We also represent insurers and third party administrators as subrogation counsel in loss recovery actions based on many commercial risks: fire, flood, water damage, cargo losses, environmental and pollution exposures, CERCLA cost recovery matters, and construction defect losses and liabilities. We also represent personal lines insurers in subrogating their rights of recovery on homeowner losses.
Some of our attorneys come directly from the insurance industry and work regularly with various underwriters to write, modify and assess policy language.
We provide a full range of case handling and settlement services, including actual litigation, arbitration, mediation and claims management. Our Insurance Practice Group attorneys have handled insurance matters for many years and are known among our peers as some of the most talented and skillful trial attorneys in New York. We embrace and are committed to complying with our clients’ reporting requirements, budgetary concerns, loss reserve reporting needs, and to forming the strategic partnering necessary for an effective and successful professional relationship.
Our Group works in conjunction with our Environmental, Litigation, Labor and Employment, Toxic Tort and Complex Litigation, Construction Law, and Product Liability Practice Groups.
